math2ndplaceteam

Last week, a number of our Vernon High School students participated in the District 7-3A UIL Academic & Literary Meet. We had two individuals advance to regionals, and two event teams finished second and will serve as alternates to the regional meet. We also had three individuals finish fourth and will serve as the first alternate in their events.

In the overall team standings, VHS improved its point total more than 50 points from last year, earning 128 points to finish fifth in the Overall School Sweepstakes. The Speech Team finished second, and the Journalism Team finished fourth in their team competition.

Qualifying for the Class 3A Region 1 UIL Academic & Literary Meet as individuals were Lily Beam and Logan Wehrwein. The top 3 individuals in each event move on to regionals. Logan finished second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, while Lily was third in Mathematics.

The first-place team in each event advances to regionals and VHS just missed out in two events. The Literary Criticism team of Mindee Wiebe, Gabbi Hernandez, A.J.
