Our Vernon ISD Summer School wrapped up last week and for the first time this year we had Summer School for our youngest students. There was a Kindergarten Readiness class for pre-k students, and a Little Lion Academy for kindergarten and 1st grade students. Here are a few pictures of the fun students had at summer school.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to senior Kell Castleberry, and sophomores Nevan Schur and Jonathan Medina for being named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Class 3A Super Elite Team!!! This is Nevan and Jonathan's first time to earn Super Elite honors, while it is Kell's third time to be named to the honor squad.
While the Boys and Girls Club will be closed tomorrow, all VISD summer school students will be provided with breakfast and lunch at VMS and McCord.
Vernon ISD is inviting the public to attend a planning meeting on how to use state and federal funds for the 2024-2025 school year.
Vernon ISD online registration/enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is now open. If you have already registered/enrolled your child online, please login and look at your packet. You will need to complete a new form "2025 Photo Media Local Share" and review the "2025 Chromebook Acceptable Use & Protection Agreement."

Vernon ISD has temporarily closed online registration and enrollment for the 2024-25 school year due to policy changes being imposed by the State of Texas. There will be a form added to the packet, and the "2025 Chromebook Acceptable Use & Protection Agreement" has changed. If you have already completed online registration or enrollment, you will need to go back and fill that form out again once online registration/enrollment is reopened. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause parents.
Last week our VMS cheerleaders attended a Universal Cheer Association camp led by one of their cheerleaders. The cheerleaders received a Superior rating from their UCA coach and received an invitation to the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. Six members of the squad also received All-American honors. Great job!! Congratulations!!
The VHS Drill Team squad leaders attended a home camp earlier this week that was conducted by the Universal Dance Association. The squad leaders learned dance skills and techniques, along with 4 dance routines. The squad leaders performed 3 of the routines for judges and received a Superior rating. Great job ladies!! Congratulations!!

Our Vernon Volleyball Camp begins Monday!! Open to all incoming kindergarteners through 9th graders. Campers can register Monday morning. Don't miss out!!
Parents will have two opportunities to attend our annual VHS Title I meeting. The purpose of a Tittle 1 meeting is to receive input from you, the parent, as to how we can improve parent and family engagement with the school. The first opportunity is June 10, while the second opportunity is June 12.
Throughout the next couple of weeks, parents and students will be able to access their STAAR and EOC scores in the TEA Family Portal. There are two ways that this can be done.
1. The easiest way to access the scores is through Skyward. Here is a video to show you how to access those scores through Skyward: https://screenpal.com/watch/c01tYLVgQjg
2. Go to the TEA Family Portal located at www.texasassessment.gov. To login to the TEA Family Portal you will need the following:
- Unique Student Access Code (The Unique Student Access Code can be found on any previous STAAR Report Cards)
- Date of Birth
- Legal first name.
Here are the dates that the scores will be available in the TEA Family Portal:
June 7: EOC (High School) Results
June 12: TELPAS Results
June 14: STAAR 3-8 Results
June 20: STAAR Alt 2 Results
If your student was not enrolled in Vernon ISD at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, they may not have access through Skyward. If anyone is unable to access the scores through Skyward, please email chantilly.sweet@visdtx.org and provide your student's name, campus and grade level.
District 7-3A has released the 2024 All-District Baseball team and Vernon placed 4 Lions on the team and 2 more received honorable mention recognition. Cross Durham, a four-year varsity starter, earned first-team honors as an outfielder, while another four-year varsity starter, Gavin Pierce, made the second-team as a pitcher. Two other seniors, Kell Castleberry and Case Fleming also made the second team. Kell made it as an infielder and Case made it as an outfielder. Making the honorable mention list were juniors Julian Sauceda and Linden Farrell. Congratulations to all!!
These Lady Lions were members of the Rojo Roses team that won the 'PDF' Spring Athletic Challenge. 'PDF' stood for Prepared, Disciplined and Focused, and the competition helped the Lady Lions work on those three areas with events that included running, weight lifting, relays and team building. Members of the Rojo Roses included Zayleigh Sweet, Katie Dodd, Natalynn Gomez, Jeana Martinez, Eruanna Chavez, Eh Paw, Brek Payne, Audelia Moralez, Adamarid Robles and Aaliyah Moralez.
A big congratulations to our Lady Lions who made the District 7-3A All-District Softball Team. We had 4 Lady Lions earn first or second team honors, and 2 who received honorable mention recognition. Senior second baseman Marli Limon made the all-district first team. Second-team honors went to senior shortstop Annaka Rejino, senior pitcher/outfielder Cirstin Ivy, and junior third baseman Laurel Easley. Making the honorable mention list were senior outfielder Jaylie Freeman and junior pitcher McKyla Myers.
Students heading to 6th grade at VMS are encouraged to stop by the VMS Band Hall this Friday, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., to meet the new band directors and try out the instruments. All students, including 7th and 8th graders, who are interested in joining the band program are invited and encouraged to attend -- even if they didn't sign up for band when preparing their 2024-25 class schedule.
We're only a week into our summer vacation, but it's never too early to begin thinking about 2024-25! With that in mind, here is the 2024 Vernon Lion football schedule. Mark your calendars!
