
Our Lions didn't come out on the right side of the scoreboard Friday night against City View, but they played hard. Receiving honors for the game are:
Offensive MVP - Parker Flynn, 11-of-18 passes with 1 TD, 1 INT, and 204 yards
Defensive MVP - Tyce Payne, 9 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss
Ball Hawk - Donivan Montano, 6.5 tackles
Big Stick - Adarius Williams, 6 tackles
Boss Hog - Ethan Wilkinson, 2 pancake blocks
Special Teams MVP - Mu Soe, 1-for-1 on PAT, 2 good kickoffs

Our VES 2nd and 3rd grade students attended Friday's Lion Pride Pep Rally at the high school and they had a great time!!




"Make the Stangs Crazy" was the theme of the Lion Pride Pep Rally this morning, as the Lions will be hosting the City View Mustangs tonight. The dress-up day was Circus Day. We had visitors this morning for the pep rally, as 2nd and 3rd grade students from Vernon Elementary walked over and joined in the fun.









The district's dress-up theme for today was Circus Day, and our students and staff definitely had fun with it.

This morning KVWC broadcast their live morning show -- This, That & The Other the Friday edition "We Bleed Maroon" from our campus. Host Kathy McClellan talked with McCord Principal Mrs. Amber Fuhrmann, as well as first grade teachers Ms. Whitney Fryman and Mrs. Mandy Kajs. She also visited with first grade students Macy White, Messiah Martin and Trindyn Torrez.


Vernon Lions receiving Texas Farm Bureau Insurance MVP Footballs for their performance in last week's 46-30 victory over Gainesville are Tru Gipson, Offensive MVP; Mu Soe, Special Teams MVP; and Adarius Williams and Landon Bynum, Co-Defensive MVP. Our Lions have opened the season 2-0 and they'll be on the prowl to keep that winning streak going tonight as they host the City View Mustangs (1-1) in a non-district game at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and don't miss the halftime performances of the Roarin' Lion Band and the VHS Drill Team. Don't forget our Lion Pride Pep Rally will be held this morning starting at 10:30 a.m.

After a tennis match last Saturday, Lion tennis players and their parents painting their tennis balls on the sidewalk that leads to the clubhouse. Players repaint and personalize the balls every year.








It's something no one wants to talk about -- yet, unfortunately we know it happens and that is teen suicide. September is Suicide Prevention Month with a focus on spreading information everyone needs to know on how to recognize when someone may be contemplating suicide and how to help. Remember -- Friends Help Friends!!

The Fine Arts can play a tremendous part in a student's education and Vernon ISD has some of the best Fine Arts teachers around at all levels. Happy National Arts in Education Week!! We appreciate all of you and all you do for our students!


McCord Principal Amber Fuhrmann and Librarian Mary Charo recently accepted a $500 donation from the Vernon Regional Retired Educators Association. Angela Morrison, president of the organization, presented the donation. The funds will be used to purchase new books for the library. We thank the Vernon Regional Retired Educators Association for their continued support of Vernon ISD.


Wednesday afternoon Vernon Mayor Pam Goslin visited McCord Elementary. Our 1st grade students were separated into two groups and Mayor Pam visited with both groups. She explained what services, such as water, protection, and upkeep of roads, that the city provides the residents of Vernon. She also explained her role as mayor, and answered questions from our students.





VMS students recognized as Student of the Week for last week were: 6th Grade -- Stormy Mathes & Beckett Bayer (not pictured); 7th Grade -- Eh Chur & Deavon Henslee; and 8th Grade -- Leah Diekman & Marco Garcia. Congratulations to these students! Great job and keep up the good work!!
