You could definitely tell it was Homecoming in our halls this morning. It may have been the mums that gave it away. The 2025 Homecoming Game is tonight, with our Lions taking on District 4-3A, D1 foe Boyd.

Today's Homecoming 2025 Lions Spirit Day theme was "Coachella" and there were few of our McCord students and staff who wore their best California attire.

AREA Champs!!
Congratulations to our Vernon Lions tennis team for defeating Stephenville, 14-4, this afternoon in a Class 4A Team Tennis Area Playoff Match in Wichita Falls. The Lions are moving on to the Region 1 Semifinals where they will meet the winner of the Canyon-Brock Area playoff game. The regional semifinal will be played at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in Plainview.

Yesterday, students in Ms. Shelby Moore's chemistry classes conducted a spectroscopy lab to identify unknown metals.

Earlier this week, the Roarin' Lion Band performed at the Wichita Falls Marching Festival. The band received great comments from the judges. Although the band was not scored at this competition, the comments from the judges on what they liked in the performance and on areas that still needed work will help the band prepare for their next marching festival. The Roarin' Lion Band will participate in the Seymour Marching Festival this Saturday, as they work to sharpen their performance for the UIL Marching Competition later this month.

Our Lions will be battling some Yellowjackets today -- some Stephenville Yellowjackets. That's Vernon opponent in the Area Round of the Class 4A Team Tennis Playoffs. Their Area match is set for 11 a.m., at Wichita Falls Memorial High School. The winner moves on to the Regional Semifinals. Good Luck Lions!!! Gold ball hunting!!

Last year our health occupations program won the Our Blood Institute Blood Drive Championship and received a $1,250 scholarship. VHS is sponsoring the first blood drive of the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The blood drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the PE Gym. You can schedule your donation by scanning the QR code or calling the number on the flyer. Our Blood Institute provides blood to all area hospitals. Please consider giving a gift that costs you nothing, but can save a life!

This is Homecoming Week, and today's Lions Spirit Day dress-up theme was "White Lies." Students had fun wearing white t-shirts with a little white lie on the front.

Today's Homecoming Lion Spirit Day dress-up theme was "White Lies." The goal was for everyone to wear white and maybe include a fun, little white lie. Our students definitely had some fun with it.

Tomorrow's JV game in Boyd has been pushed back to a 5:30 p.m. start. The game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m., however there was an issue on getting officials there by then. Tickets may be purchased, with cash only, at the gate in Boyd.
Our Vernon Middle School teams will play here with the first game set to begin at 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online at www.vernonisd.org

Our Lions and Lady Lions cross country teams ran at the District 7-3A meet Monday in Burkburnett. Almost every one of our runners set a new personal best at the meet, however this is a tough district and we were unable to get anyone out to regionals. Coach Robinson said the future is bright for the cross country team and was very proud of these athletes and their efforts this season. We apologize for not being able to get any photos of our Lady Lions in action at the district meet.

Last week, students in Mrs. Hanson's Anatomy & Physiology classes wrapped up their project on human organs by giving presentations in class. The students had to research an organ of their choice, create a powerpoint and essay using their research, as well as make a model of the organ.

Yesterday the Homecoming Lion Spirit Day dress up theme was "BBQ Dads and Soccer Moms," and it appears we definitely have more barbecuing dads than soccer moms.

Tuesday was "BBQ Dads & Soccer Mom" dress up day for Homecoming 2025 and we think the BBQ dads ruled the hallways.
