Today the 4th and 5th grade Gifted and Talented students traveled to the River Bend Nature Center in Wichita Falls to participate in a STEM Ecology Camp.

The Spanish 1 classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month today by displaying the project the students had been working on for about 3 weeks. Students researched and learned the importance and the meaning of the celebration. Then, students were put into groups and picked an Hispanic person to do a report on and also selected one of the 21 Spanish speaking countries to do a report on. The student groups put a trifold together with the information they had collected. After viewing the displays today, other VHS students were able to vote on their favorite trifold display. Our 4th & 5th grade students attended Ag Day at the Wilbarger County Exhibit Building this morning. The students heard how agriculture provides not only food, but other by-products that we use in our everyday lives and were able to pet some animals hear how the animals play a part in our everyday lives as well. There was also an electricity exhibit that explained how electricity makes to your house and went over electricity safety tips. Ag Day sponsors were Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Wilbarger County, Wilbarger County 4-H, Vernon College, and Wilbarger County Farm Bureau.
Tuesday our 1st grade students took a field trip to the Red River Valley Museum. The students learned about our local history and heritage, along with seeing a variety of animals and learning about the habitats.
VES students in the Gifted & Talented program got a chance to enjoy the schools STEM lab yesterday. The students broke into groups and worked on a building activity.
49 VHS seniors are in the PE Gym today taking the ACT. Vernon ISD provides for our students to take the ACT at no charge.
With the help of Wilbarger County Farm Bureau Board Member Austen White, three VES students get a look at the Ag Day t-shirts being provided by the Farm Bureau. Fourth and fifth grade students will wear their t-shirt at the Annual Ag Day, sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Wilbarger County 4-H, Wilbarger County, Wilbarger County Farm Bureau and Vernon College, which is being held tomorrow morning at the Wilbarger County Exhibit Building.
Lady Lions hit the road to Iowa Park today for a big District 7-3A battle with the Lady Hawks.
On Monday, the Lions cited as MVPs in Vernon's victory over Breckenridge in their District 3-3A, Div. 1 game Friday night received special Game Balls from Tiffany Rosalez, an agent for the local Texas Farm Bureau office led by Toby Kitchens. Players receiving special footballs were: Offensive MVPs - Andrew Hernandez, Ismael Urista, Keigan Ballard, Christian Gallegos, Alex Rivera (the offensive line) and Jevon Fanner; Special Teams MVP - Javy Lopez; and Defensive MVP - Shyne Rodriguez.
Members of our VES kitchen staff received a big "Thank You" from VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward, Director of Child Nutrition Skylar Boatman and Director of Child Nutrition Administrative Assistant Alice Rodriguez last Tuesday after serving the lunch at the our new school.

VMS Principal Katrina Price is handing out the Principal's Award to deserving students for each six weeks. The Principal's Award recognizes students for their diligent efforts in improving themselves academically, socially and emotionally. The award has been explained with the Zuli greeting and salutation "Zawubona" meaning -- I See You. I Value You. You are important to me.
