Today Vernon Lion MVPs from both the Boyd game and the Bowie game received their game balls, which are provided by our local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. MVPs for the Bowie game were Co-Special Teams MVP Mu Soe & Tru Gipson, and Offensive MVP Ty Scott. The Lions honored the late Gayla DeHoyos by naming her the Defensive MVP and the Lions Leadership Council presented the game ball to Tony DeHoyos. Receiving MVP balls for the Boyd game were Co-Defensive MVP Javi Lopez & Tyce Payne; Offensive MVP Carson Schoppa; and Special Team MVP Donnie Montano.

Today's Red Ribbon Week theme at VHS was "Your Future Is Bright, Don't Do Drugs" and to look into the future, students wore clothes relating to the career they hope to follow as adults.

Yesterday AG teacher Jakelyn Quisenberry took her VMS and VHS students on a field trip to watch the Southwest Cattledog Association Regional Trials that are being held at the Wilbarger County Covered Event Center. Local competitor Cody Bell spoke to some of the students about training and showing cattle dogs.

Our Lady Lions hit the road today for their District 7-3A regular-season finale in Wichita Falls against the City View Lady Mustangs. A Vernon victory and a Jacksbor loss to Iowa Park will put the Lady Lions and Lady Tigers in a tie for the final playoff spot from District 7-3A. Go Lady Lions!!! We don't want the season to end!! Good luck!!!

The Lions Roar Tailgate held Friday leading up to the Lions' game against Bowie was a fantastic success! From busy food trucks to kids enjoying all the games, it was an evening full of fun and community spirit. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who set up, participated, and came out to make this event amazing! When our school and community comes together, great things happen. The Lions improved their overall record to 6-2 and their district record to 3-1 Friday night with a 51-26 victory over Bowie. QB Ty Scott was named the Offensive MVP, throwing for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for another 166 yards and 2 scores. Safety Carter Kieschnick received the Ball Hawk Award with 2 pass breakups and 3.5 tackles. The Big Stick Award went to Izzy Espinoza for his big hit on a special teams tackle. Kicker Mu Sue went 7-for-7 on PATs and had a tackle to earn Special Team MVP honors. The entire Lions defensive squad received the Lion Heart Award, and the Defensive MVP honor went to the late Gayla DeHoyos, who was honored prior to the game.

"Pink Out" was the theme of Friday's Lions Pride pep rally. The VHS cheerleaders also finished off a cheer by making a breast cancer awareness ribbon with their pom-poms. The Lions went on to defeat Bowie in a district football game, while the Lady Lions knocked off the Lady Rabbits in a district volleyball game.
