It's Game Day for our Lady Lions as they hit the road to Bowie to square off against the Lady Rabbits in District 7-3A action. Our student attendance rate for the Fall Semester was very good and we thank all of our parents for making a concerted effort to get their child/children to school. But, VISD always strives to do better! So we have a great incentive for the 4th Six Weeks of school, which begins Wednesday. At the end of the six weeks we will give away one META QUEST 3 virtual reality headset per GRADE!! Each week a student has perfect attendance, their name goes in a drawing for the META QUEST 3. So if student has perfect attendance for the entire six weeks, their name will be in the drawing 7 times (there are 7 weeks in this six weeks). Students keep up the good work and earn more chances to be rewarded with a great prize!
Friday night at D.O. Fulton Gym is going to be a very special one, as we will be honoring the 1985 Lady Lions on the 40th anniversary of their Class 3A State Championship! A public reception for the team will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the VHS Band Hall. A ceremony recognizing the team will be held following the Lady Lions' game and prior to the Lions' game. It's going to be a great night, so come on out and cheer on the Lady Lions and Lions as they take face Iowa Park, and help us honor our 1985 state champions!
Friday evening Vernon Lions Head Coach Mark Wynn was honored for picking up his 100th victory as a head coach over the Christmas break. Coach Wynn is in his third season leading the Lions and his 100th victory came with a Vernon victory in the Windthorst Tournament. Congratulations Coach Wynn!!
Our Lions play their first home District 7-3A game today as they host the Henrietta Bearcats. The freshmen game will begin at 2 p.m., in the PE Gym, with the JV game to follow. The Lions will take the court at D.O. Fulton Gym following the girls' varsity game at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online at www.vernonisd.org. Vernon is 0-1 in district play.

For the semester final, seniors in Forensics created crime scenes using gingerbread houses. The students had to write a backstory with a clear motive and then connect at least 5 specific pieces of evidence to the story. It was a great project to wrap up the Fall Semester and head into the Christmas Break.

Vernon goes into this third district game with a 1-1 record in district, while Holliday is 0-1. Tomorrow is Vernon ISD's last day before our Christmas Break and it is an early release day.
Our VHS Culinary Arts students prepared a wonderful Christmas dinner for our high school staff and other district employees. There was turkey, ham, dressing, corn casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato casserole, pea salad, broccoli salad, blueberry fluff and too many desserts to name!! It was delicious and no one left hungry!! Great job by our culinary arts students and teacher Mrs. Audrey Hastings!!
At Tuesday night's Vernon ISD board meeting two students on the VHS Esports team, Logan Wehrwein and Logan Luster were recognized. Logan Luster competed in a state competition in the video game "Street Fighter" and Logan Wehrwein just missed out on qualifying for the state meet.
Students in Mr. Joel Finnegan's physics class wrapped up their catapult project yesterday.
