The Vernon Lions are back in action at home today!!
Our Lady Lions play their last home game of the softball season today. Senior Recognition festivities for members of the softball, track and golf teams will begin at 4:45 p.m., with the game set to start at 5 p.m., at Ronda Havins Softball Field.
Please be aware that Skyward is doing some updates to improve security of their platform. We do not know the exact date of this update, but expect it to be within the next week. If you are not prompted to create a new password, then your password already complies with their new updates. Rev. Anthony Inman, pastor of the First Methodist Church, delivers a check to Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward and Skyler Boatman, VISD Director of Child Nutrition Services, to cover all outstanding cafeteria charges for VISD students for the spring semester. This marks the second year for First Methodist Church to pay off the cafeteria outstanding charges for all VISD students.
Students in our Vernon High School FFA program traveled to Stephenville Wednesday for the District and Area FFA CDE (Career Development Event) Competition. Twelve students competed on three different teams.
Our Entomology team of Kellan Byars, Sam Thomas, Mason Ford and Kenneth Cordero claimed fourth place in District and was 10th in Area.
The Floriculture team of Lupita Munoz, Addie Soucy, Joselyn Fuentes and Courtney Saylor took fifth in District, but didn’t place in the Area competition.
The Livestock Judging team of McKyla Myers, Carleigh Ivy, Hilton Rodenberger and Nickolas Guzman finished seventh in District, but didn’t place in the Area competition.
FFA instructor McKena Shafer said the students improved as the season went along and with improvement and dedication they would be ready to roll next year.

Vernon ISD is blessed to have parents of students who support and appreciate our teachers and staff. To celebrate the end of each 6 weeks, parents at each of our campuses do something a little special for our teachers and staff. As the latest sixth weeks came to an end last week, McCord staff received fruit cups, while Central and Shive parents stocked the teacher’s lounge with snacks, and Middle School staff received handmade cookies and survival kits. Vernon High School staff received hand-delivered treats of their choice. Our students also love to see familiar faces at their schools during their school day. Vernon ISD is very thankful for the support shown to our teachers and staff. We love having parents, families and community members involved in school activities. The District 7-3A Track & Field Meet will be held Monday and Thursday in Iowa Park. Here is the schedule for the meet.
Three Vernon High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society during ceremonies held Thursday evening. Joining the NHS were Marli Limon, Kellen Byars and Yuleka Ramirez. Conducting the ceremony were current NHS officers Madeline Brown, Rufaro Muhvumba, Max Jones and Christopher Martinez. Other NHS members include Sai Ale, Dane Kieschnick and Kale Sherrill.
Graduation is getting closer and closer! Today VHS seniors picked up their graduation caps and gowns. They will wear the cap and gown for Baccalaureate on May 21 and then for graduation on May 27.

Our Vernon Lions tennis team swept first-place honors at the District 7-3A UIL Tennis Tournament, claiming all 5 event titles and capturing the district title. Ten VHS tennis players, those who finished first or second in their event, are advancing to the Class 3A Region 1 Tennis Tournament that will be held next week in Abilene.
First places honors went to: Presleigh Smith, Girls Singles; Christopher Martinez, Boys Singles; Paige Patterson and Aleya Goco, Girls Doubles; Max Jones and Dane Kieschnick, Boys Doubles; and Kinsey Weatherly and Kell Castleberry, Mixed Doubles.
Audi Goodman and Kristina Urista finished second in Girls Doubles, while Nevan Schur and Matthew Goodrum were third in Boys Doubles, and Jasmine Bustamante and Creed Smith were third in Mixed Doubles.

The Vernon High School One-Act Play "Typhoid Mary" competed in the Region 1, Area 2 Meet held Saturday at Clyde High School. Unfortunately, the VHS production did not finish in the top 3 and advance to the Region 1 One-Act Play Meet.
However, three VHS students received special recognition. Madeline Brown was named to the All-Star Cast, Alyssa Flores received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Daniella Eneanya was named Best Stage Manager.
Congratulations to the One-Act play cast and crew, and sponsor/director Dustin Swatzell for a great year. We are proud of you!!
Vernon Lion John Perez claimed the silver medal in the District 7-3A Golf Tournament Medalist competition and will be advancing to the Region 1 Golf Tournament. The regional golf tournament will be held April 17-18 in Abilene at the Diamondback National Golf Course. The Vernon Lady Lions golf team finished third in the girls' team competition. Members of the Lady Lions golf team are Marli Limon, Cirstin Ivy, Jaylie Freeman and Audrey Armstrong.
