Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward and Assistant Supt. Blaise Boswell cast their ballot for the important March primaries this week during Early Voting. The early voting period ends at 7 p.m., tonight. All early voting is done at the Wilbarger Auditorium in the Forum Room. Vernon ISD encourages ALL registered voters to exercise their right to vote. If you're unable to vote today during early voting, please make time in your scheduled next Tuesday, March 5, and head to the polls.

March 1 is Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day and we want to give a shout out to our great maintenance crew!!! You take care of four school campuses, an administration building, and numerous auxiliary buildings and facilities. You deal with numerous issues -- some big, some small -- every single day. As part of Vernon ISD's health services, a spinal screening will be conducted next week. Per Texas state requirements, only 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys will be screened this year. If a student shows any sign of a spinal defect at the screening, we will relay the information to the parent/guardian in writing. We hope the student will then be taken to their primary care provider for diagnoses and follow-up care if needed.

To celebrate VMS staff February birthdays and to have a little fun, staff members were divided into teams and participated in a Charcuterie Board contest. Each team was given a color theme. There are some very talented and imaginative people here at VMS!!! Staff members voted on their favorite and the winner was the Green Team. Congratulations!!!
Registration begins today for the VMS Lion Pride Color Run! The fun event will be held on Thursday, March 28. The color run will consist of both a 1K and a 5K. The registration form and a sponsorship letter are below. This is a fundraiser for VMS, with the proceeds going straight to the students in the form of field trips, reward trips and other student incentives.

CONGRATULATIONS!! To our Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School band students who earned Division I ratings on their solos and ensembles at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest held on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Wichita Falls.
A total of 16 students competed in the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest and with 14 of those students being from VMS and EVERY student received a Division I (Superior) rating on their solo or ensemble. Vernon ISD held a CTE Fair Tuesday morning that was attended by all VISD 7th, 8th and 9th graders. The fair was the first step as VISD begins to add more to its College and Technical Education program. The students took a survey earlier this semester which identified their top three career pathway interests. At the CTE Fair, students were able to visit with our industry partners in those pathways and also heard from local residents whose careers are in those pathways. After spending the morning attending professional development sessions, Vernon ISD teachers and staff were able to enjoy the activities of several local businesses. They had their choice of what activity or activities to participate in and whether it was axe throwing, playing pool, watching a movie, painting pottery, playing golf, or playing simulated games, everyone had a blast. A big THANK YOU!! to Paint Your Peace; Phat Axes; Tee Shot; Plaza Theater; and Hillcrest Country Club for providing some great entertainment for our teachers and staff!!
