The theme for this week's VMS Pep Rally is "Dress Your Best," which is appropriate because Thursday is not only game day, but also School Picture Day. The VMS Football Pep Rally is set for 3:20 p.m., Thursday, in the VMS Gym.
REMINDER!! Tomorrow -- Tuesday -- is an early release day for Vernon ISD. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held tomorrow afternoon. Those conferences start at 1 p.m., at McCord Elementary and Vernon Middle School, and at 1:30 p.m., at Vernon Elementary School and Vernon High School. Parents, we urge you to stop by your child's/children's campus(es) and visit with their teachers. Your children need to know that you care about their education and are engaged in their school life.

Don't forget!! The VMS Success Rally for the first six weeks will be held Friday. Following the success rally, students who have qualified will go on their incentive trip to Allingham Park.
Join us for the 2nd Annual LIONS ROAR Tailgate on October 25th—a fantastic celebration just like last year's homecoming event! We invite Vernon ISD school clubs, VISD-endorsed organizations, local businesses, churches, and community groups to participate. Only Vernon ISD entities can sell items, and Vernon ISD will not be providing prizes for booths.
This year, we’ll set up in the horseshoe drive in front of Vernon Elementary School for safety and celebration of our campus. Participants must supply their own materials and manage cleanup. The event kicks off at 4:30 PM, and booths can close as needed for the 7 PM game kickoff.
If your group wants to participate, please complete this Google form by end of the day, October 4th.

Work is underway to make this year's VMS Fall Festival one of the best ever. Students, we need YOU to sell raffle tickets! You can pick up tickets during your lunch period. Parents wishing to pick up tickets can do so at the VMS Office. If parents need a lot of tickets, please email amy.frank@visdtx.org
Anyone wishing to donate items may drop them off at the VMS Office. Items we still need include: 4-5 pound bags of individually wrapped candy; 25 count of individually wrapped pretzels, gummy bears, goldfish, animal crackers, etc.; 12 party favor prizes; 2-liter bottles of soft drinks; individually wrapped baked goods (cupcakes, cookies, etc.); items for our live/silent auction. The VMS Success Rally for the first six weeks of school will be held Friday, Sept. 27. Each grade will have a separate time for their rally: 6th Grade -- 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; 8th Grade -- 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; and 7th Grade -- 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
The Rewards Trip is to Allingham Park & Games. Concessions will be open. To earn the Rewards Trip, students must have: No more than 2 absences; No detentions; No ISS; No OSS; No DAEP; and No failing grades.

Next Tuesday, Sept. 24, our Vernon ISD Social Worker Nicole Cameron will be hosting a parent informational meeting on "Vaping Prevention." The presentation will help prepare parents to reach their children and teach them to make healthy decisions regarding vaping. The presentation will begin at 6 p.m., at the Vernon Elementary Cafeteria. It is open to ALL VISD parents, but those with children in the 5th thru 11th grades are highly encouraged to attend, as this is the age group vaping companies target the most.
The VMS Lion's Roar 1K/5K Color Run/Walk was held Tuesday evening. The funds raised from the event go to the VMS Student Incentive Fund. Follow the link to see some of the fun.

Check in and registration starts at 5 p.m. The 1K begins at 6 p.m., with the 5K to follow. Entry fee is $10 for students and $20 for adults. Middle School parents -- an informational meeting for our Middle School Fall Festival will be held tonight at 6 p.m., in the VMS Cafeteria. The fun-filled VMS Fall Festival is set for Tuesday, Oct. 8. Please attend the meeting and see how you can help to make this the best Fall Festival yet!!
Get those creative juices flowing and put your favorite character costume together for Thursday's VMS Pep Rally! Are you going to be a superhero? A character from your favorite movie or TV show? Or, a character from your favorite book? We're looking forward to seeing all of your "characters" roaming the halls on Thursday.
It's something no one wants to talk about -- yet, unfortunately we know it happens and that is teen suicide. September is Suicide Prevention Month with a focus on spreading information everyone needs to know on how to recognize when someone may be contemplating suicide and how to help. Remember -- Friends Help Friends!!
