The Vernon ISD Nursing Program will host a Halloween themed Blood Drive Tuesday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Appointments are welcome and can be made by scanning the QR code, or as always walk-ins are welcome! We would love the support from our community and hopefully meet our goal! Here are some other things to know: • Our local hospital’s blood supply is stocked with our donations - how cool is that?! • Students of age 16 MUST fill out a permission slip and have it signed by a legal guardian to attempt to donate • Only 3 in 100 people donate • 17 years and older do not require a permission slip but must meet weight requirements among others during the screening process • For every 1 donation you can save up to 3 lives • You must have a valid form of ID. Ex. Driver’s license, Permit, or school ID card • If you haven’t yet, at some point in your life you will meet or know someone who has had to receive blood • Students who do not have an ID can you the yearbook but will need a copy of their transcript to prove their age for eligibility • For more questions visit OBI.org We hope you join us on Tuesday for a chance to save some lives and walk away with an awesome t-shirt!

Yesterday our CTE program hosted a luncheon for community business men and women. The goal of the luncheon was to bridge the gap between our students and local employers. Each teacher -- Elly Gonzales, Audrey Hastings, Candace Adams, Brooke Meinzer, Justin Stone and Jakelyn Quisenberry -- who teaches a CTE pathway class spoke about their pathway and the classes they teach. This let the local employers know what we are teaching and gave them the opportunity to help us by letting us know if we're missing something in the classroom that would benefit our students in their business. It also gave us the opportunity to show our students there are good places to work in Vernon and they don't have to leave Vernon to get a good job. All the food was prepared by our Culinary Arts students, and it was delicious!!
