Yesterday, Tracy Catlin, the CTE Director at the Vernon College Wichita Falls campus, spoke to our VHS seniors about the possibilities Vernon College has to offer our seniors after graduation. We appreciate Mrs. Catlin spending the day at VHS and introducing our seniors to the VC experience.
It's "Moonwalk Across the (Ponder) Lions" this Friday at the Lions Pride Pep Rally. It's Michael Jackson Day across the district, with teachers and students dressing up like the pop star. The Lions Pride Pep Rally will start at 1:30 p.m., this week. Also, the VHS Drill Team will perform to "Thriller" during halftime of the Ponder-Vernon district game Friday night.
Today, Mackenzie Splawn, Community Educator/Client Advocate with Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse (TASA), spoke to students in Ms. Dalene Hamer's classes on healthy relationships, as well as red flags and green flags in dating relationships and in friendships. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Receiving MVP footballs from Vernon's local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agency for their performance in last Friday night's District 4-3A, Div. 1, opener in Paradise are Bowie Eakin, Lions Fighting Heart; Jamari Chance, Offensive MVP; and Carter Kieschnick, Defensive MVP. Vernon plays it's first district home game of the season this Friday when the Lions host the Lions from Ponder.
October 2nd is School Custodian Appreciation Day and Vernon ISD has some great custodians who do an exceptional job!! We definitely appreciate their hard work behind the scenes to help VISD be the best it can be!!!
It was Senior Recognition Afternoon for our Vernon Lion senior tennis players. Senior members of the team, along with their parents, were recognized before action began in the District 6-4A team tennis match. Seniors on the Lions tennis squad include Alyssa Andara, Kaitlyn Beam, Addie DeLaune, Mason Ford, Harley Fulford, Atticus Mixson, Emily Rodriguez, Ryne Sanders and Courtney Saylor.
Yesterday, our Lions tennis team defeated Burkburnett 14-5 to capture the District 6-4A Team Tennis title. In UIL team tennis, Vernon plays up a classification in 4A. The Lions go in to the Class 4A Team Tennis playoffs as the No. 1 team from District 6-4A and will face Hereford, the No. 4 seed from District 5-4A in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Congratulations!!! Good luck in the playoffs!!!
Last week our VHS cross country teams competed in a meet in Wichita Falls. We had one boy and one girl finish in the Top 20, including all classifications from 1A to 6A. Congratulations to Jackson Ochoa and Karma Calderon. Coach Thomas Robinson said all of the runners performed well in the meet. Vernon's next meet is the District 7-3A Cross Country Meet that will be held Monday in Burkburnett.

Last Friday we held our 1st Six Weeks Success Rallies for our 6th, 7th & 8th grade students. They definitely enjoyed one of the games.

On Monday, 24 students in our PCT and CNA programs earned their American Heart Association CPR certification. The all day class was conducted by Vernon firefighter/paramedic John Perez Jr. We greatly appreciate Mr. Perez taking the time to help our students.
Congratulations to our VMS 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams. They both reached the finals and finished 2nd in their divisions at Saturday's Vernon Junior High Volleyball Tournament.
Our Lady Lions volleyball team is hitting the road this afternoon, as they head to Bowie for a District 7-3A battle with the Lady Rabbits. The junior varsity matches begin at 5 p.m., with the varsity match set to get underway at 6 p.m. Go Lady Lions!!! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
Our Lions tennis team will be battling Burkburnett today with the winner capturing the district team tennis title!! It is also Senior Recognition Day for our senior tennis players. The Senior Recognition activities begin at 3:40 p.m., with the tennis match scheduled to start at approximately 4 p.m., at the Ruben Vargas Tennis Complex. Friday may have been a tough night for the Lions as we opened District 4-3A, Div. 1 with a loss to Paradise, but we still had some outstanding performances. Receiving the Defensive MVP honor for his work Friday is senior safety Carter Kieschnick, who had 4.5 tackles. Offensive MVP honors goes to junior receiver Jamari Chance who had 3 receptions for 45 yards and 1 carry for 13 yards. The Lion Heart Award goes to sophomore linebacker Bowie Eakin, who had 7.5 tackles including 1 tackle for loss.
The theme for this week's VMS Pep Rally is "Dress Your Best," which is appropriate because Thursday is not only game day, but also School Picture Day. The VMS Football Pep Rally is set for 3:20 p.m., Thursday, in the VMS Gym.
