We completed our VMS Hygiene Drive Thursday and the class winning the Caramel Apple Bar for bringing the most items was Coach Northcutt's. His class collected 380 items. The highest contributing student was Lola Luster who brought 300 items. Mrs. Frank's class finished second with 279 items, and there are only 7 students in the class. They also received a trip to the Caramel Apple Bar. A total of 1,230 hygiene items were collected. The items will be given to across the VISD when they are needed. VISD Social Worker Nicole Cameron, VMS Nurse Jennifer Walker and and the VMS Life Skills Department were in charge of the drive.
Also, a big THANK YOU to Bevo's for donating the serving trays for the Caramel Apple Bar.
On Friday, our VMS Gifted & Talented students attended a production of "Beauty and the Beast" at Altus High School. The GT students raved about the play afterwards and gave it great reviews. This was the first time for several of our students to see a play performed live on stage.
Vernon ISD is currently on Thanksgiving Break and all campuses and administrative offices are closed. We hope all of our students, their families and members of our VISD family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for!! Classes will resume and administrative offices will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2.

Today is Education Support Professionals Day! To operate efficiently and provide a quality education school districts need professionals working behind the scenes and outside the classroom who care as much about the students as those who work in the classroom. On Saturday, four Vernon Middle School Band students traveled to Seymour to try out for the ATTSB North Zone Region 7 All-Region Middle School Band, and after a rigorous audition process three students earned spots in the band! Olivia Hastings was named 4th chair in percussion; Braeden German was named 7th chair trombone; and Jace Northcutt was named 9th chair in percussion. The all-star band will perform on Saturday, Dec. 14. Band Director Jeremiah Hastings said he and assistant band director Matthew Golden were proud of all the students who audition and of the three who earned a chair in the all-star band.
Due to the Lions advancing to the Area Round of the playoffs and the playoff game being scheduled for Thursday night, we have moved our VMS boys basketball games to Wednesday. The first game will begin at 4 p.m., Wednesday.

Due to the Lions playing their Class 3A Area Round Playoff Game on Thursday night, Vernon ISD will operate on an early release schedule on THURSDAY! The district will also operate on an early release schedule on Friday. The early release on Friday was on the original school calendar.
Our VMS crew held an "Anything But A Cup" contest this week. Teachers and staff who participated turned in a photo of something other than a cup and/or them with their entry. Teachers then voted on their favorite. And the winner was......Mrs. Chilton and her calf/yearling nursing bottle!! Congratulations Mrs. Chilton!

Vernon will be hosting a Class 2A, Division 2 Football Bi-District Playoff game tonight between the Electra Tigers and the Wheeler Mustangs. The game will kick off at 7 p.m., at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior Citizen passes will be accepted. HOWEVER, Vernon ISD athletic passes and Vernon ISD teacher badges will NOT be accepted.
Yesterday was UIL competition day for Junior High One-Act Play and VMS captured third place with our performance of "School Work." Two members of the cast, Myah Leigh Townsend and Nevaeh Castillo earned All-Star Cast honors, while named to the All-Star Crew were Hawaii Say and Alexavier Maxwell. Receiving Honorable Mention All-Star Cast were Berkley Brooks, Mikayla Sanchez and Azaria Copeland. All of the students did a great job and we're super proud of them.
