Tonight is the last home game of the season for the Lions and last chance for our Little Lionbackers to run onto the field before the game. Have the Lionbackers on the east end of the field by 6:35 pm.
Today was Student Success Rally day for accomplishments during the 2nd six weeks of school. Students received their awards during their lunch period, and those who earned the incentive trip went to the VMS gym for the showing of "The Wild Robot." Students also received a free popcorn and water, with other items available to be purchased from the concession stand.
It's a 3-day weekend coming up for our VISD students, as they are out of school on Nov. 11 for a teacher professional development day. Classes will begin on our regular schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Due to the possibility of inclimate weather this afternoon, our VMS football games against Peaster have been canceled.

Today our 6th grade PE classes held a Basketball Ball Handling Competition. Here are the winners from both classes.
Vernon ISD will be honoring our local veterans at the football Friday night. We have asked four veterans to raise the United States and Texas Flags, and we are inviting Armed Forces veterans to join them at the flagpoles.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and to show support for our district students and staff who live with diabetes, VISD is encouraging all students and staff to wear blue every Thursday of the month.
There will be a runoff between Jarrod David and Kyle Echols for Place 3 on the VISD school board. No candidate received a majority of the votes. Here are the vote totals:

Nomination period for our Vernon ISD Gifted & Talented Program will begin on Nov. 12 and continue until Dec. 20. An informational meeting for parents will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19. There will be 2 opportunities for parents to attend the meeting. One meeting will be held at 1 p.m., in the boardroom at the VISD Administration Building, and the second meeting will be held at 6 p.m., in the VHS Media Center.

VMS will be conducting spinal screenings for all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys on Wednesday. This is part of the district's health services and also a Texas state requirement. If a possible spinal defect is detected by the school nurse during the screening parents will receive information in writing and will be advised to make an appointment with their family's health care provider.
Remember tomorrow we're back on Central Standard Time, so be sure and set your clocks back an hour tonight before you go to bed. Enjoy that extra hour of sleep!!
It was all treats and no tricks for our VMS teachers on Halloween as they spun the wheel to see which treat they would get! The VMS administrative team, Principal Katrina Price, Assistant Principal Maggie Sasse, and Counselor Misti Dickerson surprised the teachers with this Halloween Spin the Wheel game and treat.
